BROAD FUNCTION:The Tooling Engineer is responsible for the design and implementation of cutting tool applications. The responsible person will focus on tooling improvements, tool life and advanced tooling technology. 
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES: 
Specifies correct cutting tools and their application for use in the manufacture of company products
Design or re-design the cutting tool to optimize existing processes.
Develops processes using the most advanced cutting tool technology to reduce costs and make quality improvements.
Explore new materials, coatings, tool holders and methods to improve consistency, repeatability and capability.
Knowledge and application of tool design, cutting tool nomenclature, materials and the most advanced tool coatings.
Working knowledge of CNC machining centers, lathes, gundrills,reamers, and swage practices.
Writes procedures for the operation of new or existing equipment.
Work with vendors to obtain proper design, purchase and establish tool life characteristics.
Writes functional work instructions.
Stays informed concerning new manufacturing technology and equipment, and investigates their potential applications. Recommends incorporation of new technology for company applications where feasible and practical. Does cost justifications for capital expenditures.
Follows all policies, procedures, and safety regulations.
job requirements / skill sets:
EDUCATIONAL/EXPERIENCE/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
BSME degree or a BS degree with a concentration of coursework in Industrial Technology or Industrial Engineering is preferable.
Not less than seven (7) years experience as a Tooling Engineer
(Cutting Tool Specialist), with a metal working background 
Experience in capital appropriation evaluation and analysis
Knowledge concerning Mechanical principles, machining practices, the properties of metals, and the application of mathematics and dimensions to create part processes.
Able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Ability to work in a team environment.
Working knowledge of computer systems and data processing.
Familiar with computer-controlled machine tools as well as conventional machine tools.
Knowledge of SPC.
Ability to read and understand blueprints. 
Knowledge of geometric tolerancing. Ability to do basic tolerance analysis.
Strong technical comprehension and strong initiative to solve problems.
